Lonny Lalulla Haput and Midjydens Le Mans

My heart child is this one, Midjydens Le Mans. He's my funniest, most loving, and wildest friend! I've had him for eight years. We've won and achieved so many incredible things. He'd go through fire and water for me. He takes care of the young riders! A horse that knows how to please. He's my wildest journey, from throwing me off daily as a young horse to participating in the Hubertus Hunt and never saying no! He's indescribable.

Anita Dolleris Petersen and Colour

My already best friend in the world/once-in-a-lifetime horse is him. I bought Colour as a "last chance horse"/mistreated horse. He was to be put down if he didn't fit in with me. He had severe behaviour issues, was incredibly food-aggressive, and initially ran off with the stable staff despite a chain in his mouth. The vet advised me not to buy him, but my teenage heart was sold at first sight. He had some psychological trauma. It took a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and frustration, but I saw something in his eyes the first time I saw him, and I'm SO glad I didn't give up. He became my most wonderful and faithful friend and life teacher, and we had 6.5 wonderful years together. R.I.P.

Stinne Engelstock Mainz and Kabale

He is irreplaceable. I was there when he was born. I followed my heart and bought him when he was four months old, despite my brain telling me it was stupid to buy a foal. I was a student, and it didn't make sense financially or regarding riding. Ten years later, I still own him, and he is my absolute best friend. I've never regretted the decision for a single second. I don't have a horse just to have a horse. I have a horse because I have HIM.

Mille Drescher and Luca

When he was seven, and I was 13, I got him part time. Two fantastic years sharing him as a pony rider, but then problems arose with Luca's owner. I wasn't supposed to have my own horse, but Luca being taken away from me and sold again wasn't an option (he had had six different owners in his otherwise short life). So, I worked hard but ended up getting Luca as a Christmas present. We've been together ever since - 11 years this Christmas. Through ups and downs in both body and mind, but it's all worth it when I have my Luca. His start in life left its mark, and today, he enjoys his retirement because he has given me so much that he deserves everything I can give him.

Isabella Jensen and Haffe

This is my heart horse! She has helped me through a tough period, especially now that I unfortunately have kidney problems. She's been there with a hug on tough days. She also helped me get home once after a bad fall on the road despite having two swollen hind legs.

Sandra Austrica Schøn and Provence

Without a doubt, my beautiful 32-year-old Haflinger, Provence. She is and will always be my heart horse. She has been my rock, my best friend, and she still is after nearly 25 years.

Liselotte Puggaard and NA Morisa

She is simply the best and most loving friend we've all had. She adapts to whether it's one of my three children riding her or me. Fortunately, we still have her, and she's just a middle-aged, slightly stiff lady, just like my self. I found her after a 20-year break from horses, and she's the best thing that came out of the pandemic for me.

Linda Valentin Dam and Jeltje

Jeltje is my heart horse. Initially, I was supposed to ride her to prepare her for sale to her owner, but I instantly fell in love with her. I was never supposed to have a horse again... I didn't have the time, money, or desire. I've had her for 5.5 years (she is 20), and our bond and friendship strengthen daily. I can barely think "gallop" before she takes off, and on a bad day, she's there, cuddling up to me. I've had many horses over the years, but none compares to her. I love that horse to the stars and hope for many more good years together.

Many horse enthusiasts have probably experienced knowing or owning a horse that was just something extraordinary. That horse who got right under your skin. A genuine heart horse. We asked you, our readers, to send in stories and pictures of your heart horses – and there are many of them, both living and in the heavens.
