I like to describe my photos as art without the use of a brush and paint

"It all started at the age of 15. That's when I got my first camera and started taking pictures of everything, I came across. After graduating from high school, I started to enter the world of horse photography. In the beginning, I photographed the horses of friends. I enjoyed it so much that I started attending workshops on horse photography. In addition to the practical side of things, I also learned about image processing and the like in theory and also learned a lot through various webinars.

Carolin Felgner was born and raised in a small town called Hartha in Saxony, and she has lived in the beautiful city of Leipzig since 2016. Her heart has always beaten for animals, especially horses. In August 2020, Carolin decided to continue photography as a sideline to her other job as an assistant tax consultant.

“Since then, I have been offering photo shoots for pet owners. The majority of my work is in horse photography. However, I also like to photograph dogs, cats or other animals,” Carolin says.

Photos are art

“I like to describe my photos as art. Instead of a brush and paint, I work with light and digital photography. It is incredibly interesting to let a picture idea mature in my head and then later to be able to realize it,” Carolin explains and goes on:

“I would describe my style as dark and sometimes very gloomy. Editing photos in black and white has a very special appeal for me. A photo in black and white can have a very different effect on the viewer than one in colour.”

Plans for photo travels
For photo shoots or workshops, Carolin likes to travel by car for several hours or even by plane.

She still has a lot of photo destinations on her wish list, and two of these wishes will come true this year.

“I will spend 2 weeks on the Canary Island of Fuerteventura. The barren and stony landscape fascinates me immensely. There I would like to do 2 to 3 photo shoots with local horses.

Later I will travel to Iceland with two photo colleagues to shoot Icelandic horses in their natural environment. I am very excited about it and can hardly wait,” Carolin says.

About the cover photo
Last November, Carolin had the chance to take part in a photo trip to Mallorca. The cover photo was taken on this trip. It is of a PRE stallion named Django.

“We were allowed to photograph him in the free run on a spacious paddock. This is how the cover picture was taken,” Carolin explains.
